UVIC IDC

About the Client
The Innovation and Development Corporation (IDC) was formed to act as the interface between University of Victoria (UVic), UVic researchers, the private sector, government bodies, and other institutions or organizations involved in the commercialization of UVic research. The mission of IDC is to facilitate the transfer of UVic research to the private sector by providing professional technology transfer and industry liaison services to the University community. The core business of IDC is, therefore, focused on the requirements of technology transfer and commercialization.

Challenge
The IDC is the University of Victoria's public face to the private sector and other organizations interested in the commercialization of research developed there. Therefore they needed a web solution that would present the its best face forward, dynamically update the information based on the changing nature of research and allow the content experts to respond to dynamically.

Solution
IDC selection process was based on ease of use, off-site publishing to an external FTP, local support, and price. IDC considered a number of vendors and after an extensive bidding process, IDC selected ElementCMS as their content management system of choice. The selection was based off of the group management and strong WYSIWYG editor, excellent templating procedures and the ability to incrementally publish to an off-site FTP, in addition ElementCMS gained points because the solution was found locally in British Columbia.

Outcome
The new IDC site was launched with ElementCMS on time and under budget. Costs of ownership dropped and content management is now no longer an issue.
